Squirrelmail uses their own functions, it would be nice if we could drop in a replacement set of functions so all the remaining functions of squirrelmail would remain intact.

That would rule, and be fast too. I've done a little digging, and although it's not as modular as I'd like, it should be doable with a little work. I have some time coming up as I just finished a bigger project, so perhaps I'll take a look at that.. Anyone else that wants to throw in would be welcome too..

I wonder about implementing the same set of functions and data structures
as PHP's c-client imap wrapper. That would allow drop-in direct support of
DBMail, bypassing actual IMAP (which really is a bottleneck both on server
side and client side).
