Definitely a bug. search/sort should work and fully implement the rfc sort draft.
Looks like a regression after I fixed somethings the popped up when using roundcube. But I can't reproduce on svn-trunk. Are you using 2.1.7, because that one *did* contain some regression in search/sort that have been fixed last week.
