The answer is: it depends on how you set it up.  Look
under /etc/dbmail.conf and read the comments next to
sqlport= and sqlsocket=  it should explain everything.

Alternatively, you can do a netstat -a to see if you
have localhost connections to the mysql server.  Just
stop and start dbmail.  If the connections go away
when you shut down dbmail and return when you start
dbmail, then you would have your answer.
