It's also possible dbmail is looping over getpwent calls. As what user is
dbmail-imapd running? Does that user really exist? Is dbmail-imapd suid?
Try attaching a strace to the running dbmail-imapd processes and sent us the
trace.
Did you by chance disable lookupd's caching?
