Hello,

O.k. I have been hacking at this all day, started with Postfix
and decided that was a lost cause. Before the screams start please
note that I have 12 years experience with Sendmail. Postfix is supposed
to be easier. It isn't if you used to sendmail. Anyway....

I have a PostgreSQL 7.4.6 database.
dbname: dbmail
dbuser: dbmail
dbowner: dbmail
dbport: 5433

Hardware is dual-opteron. I had to compile dbmail statically because it won't correctly link with PostgreSQL on the 64bit in shared mode.

I can log into the database. I can see tables.
I added a user with the following command:

/usr/local/sbin/dbmail-users -a jd -w <password> -p md5-digest -m 0 -s [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I used the following command to verify the user:

psql -U dbmail -p5433 dbmail
select * from dbmail_users;

4 | jd | acbd18db4cc2f85cedef654fccc4a4d8 | 0 | 0 | 0 | md5sum | 2004-11-24 15:32:58.86739

If I connect with thunderbird I get the following in the /var/log/maillog

Nov 24 15:35:19 hosting2 dbmail/imap4d[31429]: PerformChildTask(): incoming connection from [64.146.135.248] Nov 24 15:35:23 hosting2 dbmail/imap4d[31429]: COMMAND: [1 authenticate login] Nov 24 15:35:23 hosting2 dbmail/imap4d[31429]: IMAPD [PID 31429]: user (id 4, name jd) login accepted @ 2004-11-24 15:35:23
Nov 24 15:35:23 hosting2 dbmail/imap4d[31429]: COMMAND: [2 select "INBOX"]
Nov 24 15:35:24 hosting2 dbmail/imap4d[31429]: COMMAND: [3 IDLE]
Nov 24 15:36:45 hosting2 dbmail/imap4d[31429]: COMMAND: [DONE]
Nov 24 15:36:45 hosting2 dbmail/imap4d[31429]: COMMAND: [4 authenticate login] Nov 24 15:36:45 hosting2 dbmail/imap4d[31429]: COMMAND: [5 login "jd" "<password>"]

Looks good so far.

Problem #1:

If I using thunderbird try to copy a message from one account (that works) to the dbmail account it asks me to login again. When I supply my password again, thunderbird says. "Login in to server hosting-two.commandprompt.com failed." .

Problem #2:

If I try to create new folders or subscribe to folders problem #1 exhibits itself.

Problem #3:

/var/log/maillog does not list any messages after the initial successful login. If I just select INBOX again I will get the same messages as above.

Problem #4:

How do I get sendmail to check dbmail to verify that a user exists. I setup the mailer(dbmail) and subsequent mailertable but it doesn't seem to work.
However this could be issues with problems 1-3.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Joshua D. Drake
