Hi Bart: I think you will find dbmail on FBSD a worthy project. Here's a few FBSD pointers and some general helpers.
DbMail version 2.0.3 will build like a charm on 4.8/9/10/11 or 5.x Current CVS has some getopt issues but a workaround is available. Suggest you build 2.0.3 as changes in CVS are not substantial. http://www.dbmail.org/download/ Be sure to read the tarball's "INSTALL" file first. I like postfix as MTA. http://www.postfix.org/download.html Also read "INSTALL.postfix" or INSTALL."whateverMTA" Qmail, Exim, Sendmail are other options. Postfix is way ahead these days IMHO. Visit http://library.mobrien.com/dbmailadministrator/ to read stuff and get the DbMail Administrator GUI (there's a Demo too) Don't start DbMail until you get MySQL hooked up. MySQL must be 4.0.14 or later InnoDB is far better than MyISAM. (configure InnoDB in /etc/my.cnf for global) Make certain mysql_config is in your path. (i.e.: /usr/local/bin/mysql_config) You will need to do some housework ... mkdir: /etc/postfix create pseudo accounts: user and group == dbmail, postfix, maildrop edit "dbmail-2.0.3/dbma.conf" from tarball then cp to /etc You can adjust the config parts of the startup scripts in dbmail2.0.3/dbmail-2.0.3/contrib/startup-scripts and put them in /usr/local/etc/rc.d or do the /etc/rc.local thing if you like that better Your mysql schema is in dbmail-2.0.3/sql/mysql/create_tables_innoDB.mysql To build, once you are ready, as root ... YOU MUST USE "GMAKE" on FBSD ./configure --with-mysql gmake gmake install I have only a couple Linux types available for comparison but in each case DbMail performs better on FBSD. have fun... I have never tried to build dbmail from FBSD ports, but DbMail runs very well on FBSD Suggest you "make deinstall" then download and install 2.0.3 and read INSTALL and INSTALL.(your_MTA_choice) Perhaps you have already. Have you checked your dbmail.conf in /etc lmtpd should be at /usr/local/sbin/dbmail-lmtpd have you tried manually starting lmtpd?
