Hi All,

Since I upgraded to the latest stable version of Ubuntu (5.04 aka "Hoary") on my client machine, I've been having heaps of trouble getting either Evolution 2.0.2 or Thunderbird 1.0.2 to talk to my dbmail 2.0.4 server (running on FreeBSD 5.3).

When connecting to the stunnel port 993, I find that I can rarely get the list of messages in a folder to appear. The client just hangs there. Investigating the log usually (probably always) reveals an entry like this:

May  8 14:13:13 hostname dbmail/imap4d[37283]: IMAPClientHandler(): error
[Broken pipe] on write-stream

When I use the standard imap port, 143, things are usually a bit better - I can display the contents of even large folders with thousands of messages, and can usually view small messages. But if I click on something larger than say, 15KB, the client hangs again. Logs show things like this:

May  8 22:10:57 hostname dbmail/imap4d[568]: IMAPClientHandler(): error
[Operation not permitted] on write-stream

I've tried connecting to the mail server from the same network using an OS X Thunderbird client and that works fine. I've also tried using Evolution on a "Warty" (previous stable release of Ubuntu) live CD and that also works fine. So the problem seems isolated to Ubuntu 5.04.

I've posted this to the Ubuntu forums about 24 hours ago, but so far no bites and there are no other posts that describe anything that I'm seeing. That tells me that this problem is not showing up in other IMAP servers, so I tried connecting my client to a UW-Imap server and could not get the problem to occur.

Is anyone else running Hoary and getting it to work with dbmail 2.0.4? Where should I start trying to diagnose and fix this?

Regards,

Nik
