Well you know what they say about necessity being the mother of invention...
I pounded out a patch that allows you to do IP virtual based domain hosting for dbmail v2.0.4. Currently the patch only supports IMAP, but I expect by the end of the day I'll have POP supported as well. The premis of the patch is that you add a new table called dbmail_domains, where you put a domain with an IP. Then when a new connection is made to the server, it figures out what IP the client connected to, checks if the username is fully qualified, of not, the domain that matches the IP from the table is appended to the login name. So it's expected that the usernames are fully qualified, however the patch is also backwards compatable. If you simply don't define any domains to IP mappings the code will simply pass the username through. If you have identical user names for different domains, and they are different people, then you need some other piece of identifying information to figure out the domain. Be it a separate port or IP, or a domain in the login, there has to be something to tell these people apart. DBMail uses a unique login, which is definitely a simpler way to deal with things. So the only way to get what you want is to have a separate install of dbmail for each of your domains. Not optimal in my opinion. If there is no way to convince your users they need to use their full email address as a login, you may just be better off sticking with what you have now.
