Hi Jacques:
1.2.11 is very cool for production. Straightforward and reliable. Good
legacy choice.
I never found a use for Horde (although it appears to be well-written and
indeed popular) but I have written several and I have installed Squirrelmail
on many user-driven requests. Never, in any version have I had search fail
for DbMail -- Various degrees of effectiveness, but not fail.
I also never managed to get Horde working completely on anything.
Squirrelmail's a breeze but Horde makes me want to get crazy and burn my
house down. Perhaps I just had a bad experience with Horde as a child but I
strongly suggest Squirrelmail. It is soooo prolific that there are Buddhist
monks in the deepest darkest corners of Tibet who speak no words except
occasionally mutter "Squirrelmail Nirvana" and grin as they open their
laptops and get into an email transcendental vibe. ( :o) )
I have created a demonstration of search in DbMail for you. You now have a
Canadian dev email account at e-me.ca.
I will send you your login credentials by other means. This is using dbmail
2.0.9 and a bunch of other interesting things. The GUI is proprietary
http://e-me.ca and the point is to show you how well and how fast DBMail
search can be if the GUI is done right. I write the search function quite
differently than Squirrelmail and Squirrelmail is about as good if not
better.
best...
Mike

to2.1
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your answner, my production server is dbmail 1.2.11.
I'm upgrading to 2.0.9 on a new server, but i have a problem with
the search function in horde/imp interacting with dbmail-imap.
So i decide to "twinkle" with 2.1.3...
I'll take your advice and stick with 2.0.9
I'll try to figure out why the search in horde/imp is always giving
"nothing found" went interacting with dbmail 2.0.9
Thanks again

Hi Jacques:
Did you say conversion from 2.0.x to 2.1.3?
1) Are you not running the wrong version of DBMail? i.e.: should be 2.0..9
instead of 2.1.3 if you are running anything even *like* a production
server.
2) If this is an experiment, maybe someone else could tell you if it is
even
worth playing with 2.1.3 cuz it is so far behind current Subversion. The
range of changes in HEAD make 2.1.3 ancient. But, if you are on a mission,
include some details like OS-type and version of glib, gmime,
dbmail-util -V
out, as well as trace 5-out.
I have been running a version a tad later than 2.1.3 for a while on a BSD
SMP development server. It's a rollback from failed newer SVN builds. I
experienced no glib error on 2.1.3 as you report. A gazillion others in
the
various 2.1.x builds but not that one. Maybe someone else has.
dbmail-util runs well on my 2.1.3 installation and has been handy for
clearing up the excess messages which piled up in the delivery agent's
account a few times when my tests became abusive :o). Every now and again
2.1.3 does something totally weird. I guess some Bugs are ones that got
wacked in SVN. I haven't played hard lately. Its done ordinary stuff on
its
dev server for about five months or so with the few minor changes I
mentioned. It basically runs nicely for straight forward SMTP/IMAP mail..
Basic protocols do quite well. But I have no idea what crazy thing it'll
do
next in some feature use. LDAP is cool but my setup must need work cuz not
everything is copesthetic. It is buggy -- even a little scary for more
than
cron traffic. It's a live experiment. Perhaps you would be best served by
Stable 2.0.9 but if you really want to play, get jamming with the TRUNK
version at https://svn.ic-s.nl/svn/dbmail/trunk/dbmail
best...
