Entering this,

dbmail-users -l

this is what is in the log file....

Mar 11 13:39:30 cpe-66-65-161-178 dbmail/adduser[4139]: dbmysql.c,db_connect: mysql_real_connect failed: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

I would have thought it would be using dbuser from the /etc/dbmail.conf file...
