So you did:

ALTER TABLE dbmail_messageblks MODIFY messageblk LONGBLOB NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE dbmail_messageblks MODIFY messageblk LONGTEXT NOT NULL
CHARACTER SET utf8;

as described in the mysql manual section 10.10.2

right?
