Yes, ldap should be used here.
You can use dbmail with ldap, and addressbook with ldap.

Well... my question and persistense is based on exchange where the
address book is on the server, this becames praticly, and, i think
is a great feature to more people came to use dbmail.
Or the thing to go around is to setup a LDAP server on the same
machine that runs the mail system to syncronize the address book?
