Yup that's the general idea. I'm more focused on
Virtualization though. I will be using either XEN or VMware
to achieve the speed of installation and scalability.

Here's why:

A toaster type script that can handle all the complexities
of installation in an automated way would be great.
Virtualization seems to be an emerging trend for building
turn-key service specific appliances. Since we have it
working I plan on taking this approach.
