Those who do a lott of svn/cvs-head building do know. It is very common. The INSTALL file also get's into the release, so that's not a good place, the wiki is.

There are instructions for downloading the SVN on the website
perhaps just put it (or a link to it) under there?

You are telling people how to start the process but not how to finish it. The easier it is to use the latest version the more people will, the more testing you get.
