But you miss the whole point of having an API in the first place.

It gives you the means to simplay and SAFELY manage/munge the data
without worrying about breaking business logic rules.

Of course it would be faster to write directly to the database.
But for that matter, why am I sending you an email in this manner?
Just send me the IP/Port and a username/password of your dbmail database
and I'll just run the INSERT statements from here. ;)
