Ran into the same problem myself.
I found it helped a little, but not much, to write my own perl script and went
through a very thorough job of killing off all the IMAP objects. This helped
some, but it definitely did not solve the problem as I was still running out of
memory. The only difference was less often.
But I was running postgres.
