Ok, I just did the test on mysql 5.0.27. It took 73 seconds
to deliver the 1000 messages. So, it's a good bit faster than
4.1.20's 95 seconds, but still pales in comparison to
postgres' 9 seconds. Mysql was still peaking both cpu cores
during delivery.
Good to know. I, like others have mentioned, think message insertion
benchmarks are largely irrelevant. Users guage performance on how
quickly they can get at their stuff, not on how quickly their stuff gets
to where they can get at it. :^)
Has anyone come up with a way to benchmark POP/IMAP performance?

These days, ANY benchmark between Oracle, mysql, mssql and postgresql is
important, given the level of misinformation floating around that relies
on 5-10 year old data. And I also would really like to see imap
benchmarks. By the way, when I forwarded the above benchmarks to core
members of the postgresql.org development group they were quite pleased
with the news. Michael
