It's just a join with the domains table, which should be hidden by an 
appropriate interface.

Yes, logging in without domain part should be possible via a flag. Or, 
for backwards compatability, there should be a flag saying "login only 
allowed with domain part". Like this, existing installations won't be 
touched, and only those who want get the new feature.
