I experienced the same problem using Alpine (latest version of Pine,
still in alpha) as client: deleted 4 spams, expunged, and then two of
them were still in the list while at least one message I didn't
delete was no longer there. Then I opened one of the deleted
messages and instead of that, the message I didn't mean to delete
showed up! Restarting Alpine, everythig was OK.
Time to do some more tests...
