Fred and Aaron, let be honest, in comparison with most successful open source projects, ala apache.org or post5gresql.org, the dbmail stuff is really not ready for prime time, but there really is no alternative, so we all work hard to coax the stuff the right direction. John Kennedy once said - don't ask what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country! So Fred, is dbmail just some low lieing fruit for you to grab and complain about, or are you willing to become part of a community! with reciprocal obligations......

Pardon me, but you're not being blunt so much as simply demanding.

Questions like, "I did X and expected Y but got Z, could someone lend me a
hand getting to Y?" are accessible for people to help you.

Statements like, "Your effort at writing documentation isn't good enough
because I don't know what I'm reading" are not conducive to receiving the
largess of others.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't had any luck yet getting DBMail up and
running, but you most certainly haven't given anybody any useful
information upon which to base a helpful response.

Thanks for that Aaron

I have made several attempts at doing just that, getting the basics up and
running. I think I am on about my 9th build so far, and still not even
close to getting this working. What I have done and on what distro is far
beyond the scope of this list.

I am now in giveup mode.

I am sorry to sound blunt, but can someone just point me to something that
works. I don't care what I need to do to get it done, I just want to
follow some instructions and have it work.

Then all I have to do is battle with dbma

Regards

Fred

I am a relative newby to linux, but enjoying the benefits it offers.
Welcome!

My problem:
Where is the real documentation on how to install and configure
dbmail?
Trust me, I am not trying to be a smartass.
I have gone through what is in the wiki section by section in order
and
done as stated. I feel it is incomplete and makes assumptions that I
feel
I am unaware of. Remember, I say this as a newby to linux. Yes I
concede
that this style of project is probably not for the newby, but how
else am
I going to learn if I make no attempt.
The docs on the Wiki are pretty good. They do mostly assume that you
experience configuring an email server on Unix.

So here is what I want to do.
Get dbmail going with
mysql+postfix+(option)antispam+antivirus+squirrelmail
I would also like to get DBMA going as well.
Start with dbmail+postfix+database and get that working first, then add
the additional components one at a time.
