Btw, MD5 is out. If I do this, SHA1 seems much better (less chance of
collisions), unless something better shows up on the radar.

I did some googling, not intensive, but how likely is it that a collision in SHA1 would also be a collision in MD5? If not, do both.

Never mind.  It should be sufficient to compare SHA1 and size.
