Hi there,

I'm working on a project to improve a client's mailing list archives.

We're sick of the usual suspects (pipermail, mhonarc, lurker, etc.), and want
to get a level of abstraction (e.g. IMAP) between display and storage. My
current idea is to put all archived messages in a dbmail imap server, and
allow anyone to access them using a reader of their choice.

However, a web-based reader is also a requirement. The only thing I've found
to read an imap archive via http (short of a full-blown webmail
implementation) is webmlist (a cyrus project). Webmlist only
supports "anonymous" imap or GSSAPI auth.

I've read the wiki page about shared "public" and "user" folders, but this
appears to assume that anyone access the imap store will have a legit account
w/ password.

Does dbmail explicitly support "anonymous" imap? I've tried just creating
an "anonymous" user with a blank password, but this still requires an auth
sequence to go anywhere.

Any thoughts on how to make this work? Know of any alternatives to webmlist?
Got any other novel list archival solutions? Please let me know!

Thanks!
