The difference is, you just wanted the stats, but with mail it's often 
the single lines that are needed, to see the error message a server 
gave or whatever. It's more like making the apache error log available 
to the user, you would need the single lines, too. 

Of course, the stats are needed, too. I have online stats from 
mailgraph, http://mailgraph.schweikert.ch/ , but that doesn't replace 
displayed single syslog entries.
