This is weird. I examined the exported mailbox and here is how one of my test 
messages look like:

Look at the date on the first line. I checked the date on my system and it is 
2008. On normal mailbox, the date on the first line should be:

>From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Jan 14 08:13:46 2008

I changed the date format and was able to read the mbox file okay with 'mail -f 
Mailbox'

Is this a bug or is there something I didn't setup right on my system?
