That discussion was about a different problem with IDLE. That problem was indeed
fixed.

The error message you refer to is afaik a false positive: even though an error
is detect on the socket by the kernel, no error is perceived by the client. I'm
not sure it's fixeable in 2.2.x, but it's a thing of the past in the upcoming
2.3.3 release.
