I use 2007 also but just created a menu on the toolbar for it, it's easyer.

But for a normal user this may be complicated.

I think its on the "Edit" Menu.  I have Outlook 2007.  On 2007 its called
Purge.  One of the options is to "purge when switching folders online."

That's the most common problem here, people don't do this manually
until they receive the "your account near over quota" message.
