Sucks! No, there is no reason whatsoever for such a difference. Perhaps
there is a problem in imap-append in rc1 - I have fixed a cpu hog due to
loops in the network-reading code under certain circumstances. I'll do
some investigation.

Only thing you might try is to tweak max_db_connections so more
concurrent database connections are maintained.
