I would say, like others, just take the filesystem backup for general backup 
needs

LVM snapshots can give you very fast restores to recover from deleted messages 
or other application-level issues. They obviously don't protect against 
storage failures. There's nothing wrong with taking backups in multiple ways 
to meet different recovery objectives, though. If you find yourself doing 
frequent restores to bring back user data, then the LVM snapshots could be a 
very helpful addition to your regular backups.
