it probably is caching the connections, imap clients will often sprout a
bunch of connections to the host, perdition could well be grouping all
of those into one connection perhaps.
If the clients are using webmail or something like that, they will start
a buttload of imap connections every time they hit a page, imapproxy or
perhaps perdition is bundling all of those into just the one connection
to dbmail.
