This problem has been eating into my working and sleeping hours like insane.
On git master I did fix a couple of memory leaks, but nothing that would
explain this behaviour.
Further investigation has led me to suspect this is due to memory
fragmentation. Some improvements were made already, but fixing this for
good will take some time.
Until then: restart you services often enough, or run them from inetd if
you don't serve too many concurrent clients.
