FYI, 3.1.7.1 is not an official release. It's only available as a GIT
tag, and was done for a client. It's basically the security password
tree, which is also available in the master tree.

Looking at your gdb trace there is an assertion failing. Just to:
gdb .../dbmail-imapd
gdb) run -D
.... crash
gdb) bt
this will reveal the location and cause of the assertion failing.
Probably something trivial.
