No, the dbpedia ontology is not deprecated.
We converted the information and mappings leading to the dbpedia 
ontology into template and
will upload them to Wikipedia. So it serves as the basis, but will be 
editable by everyone on Wikipedia.
We are waiting for the live extraction to be back online to load the 
templates,
so that it can synchronize. Probably beginning next week.
The uploading requires some manual steps, so everyone willing to help is 
welcome.
