Hi all,
it seems, that thumbnail-URLs are not completely extracted from
infoboxes. I am especially interested in thumbnails of movies.
If I have a look at the wiki-page for "The Matrix" for example, I
definitely can see a thumbnail. Where is the dbpedia property for that?
best regards,
Sebastian
Take a look at
http://ookaboo.com/
we use Freebase and Dbpedia as inputs, but once we've established the
existence of topics we IX wikipedia directly to extract image links and
metadata.
Unfortunately things related to creative works are weakly represented in
Ookaboo because Ookaboo has a different copyright policy than
wikipedia. In particular, we don't accept the "fair use" concept so we
only include images that are public domain or creative commons. We
stopped importing images from wikipedia last month because we moved the
system over to Amazon S3 and made a number of performance and
scalability related changes, but we just started the image loading
again last week... The acquisition of images is limited by how fast we
can pull them out of Wikimedia Commons, and my guess is that we've got
enough images to load for another month before we have to go and fix
recall problems with the IX system... I think recall can be improved by
another 50% or so.

Paul,
Are you interested in putting your stuff behind a SPARQL endpoint? Or
exposing an RDF archive or sitemap etc..
SPARQL Endpoint gives you an API in a nutshell.
