Hi Jordi,
While the other guys are busy with the 3.8 release, I can give you a couple
of initial pointers:

By looking at the source page, I found out which infoboxes are used.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Australia&action=edit

For example, Infobox country:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Infobox_country

By simple string substitution in the URL, I arrived at the mapping in our
mappings server:
http://mappings.dbpedia.org/index.php?title=Mapping_en:Infobox_country&action=edit

Which contains a specialized Geocordinates mapping:

{{GeocoordinatesMapping | latitudeDegrees = latd  | latitudeMinutes = latm
 | latitudeDirection = latNS  | longitudeDegrees = longd  |
longitudeMinutes = longm  | longitudeDirection = longEW }}
}}

You can take a look at the extractors:
http://dbpedia.hg.sourceforge.net/hgweb/dbpedia/extraction_framework/file/e4cb1874298e/core/src/main/scala/org/dbpedia/extraction/mappings/GeoCoordinatesMapping.scala
http://dbpedia.hg.sourceforge.net/hgweb/dbpedia/extraction_framework/file/e4cb1874298e/core/src/main/scala/org/dbpedia/extraction/mappings/GeoExtractor.scala

I also found another template at the Australia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Coord

But I don't know what is the reason for the duplication. Let's see if
somebody else that knows more about the core can help. Or perhaps now with
this info you can arrive at the answer yourself.

If you find a fix, we'd love to get a patch!

Cheers,
Pablo
