Hello all,
I have been viewing the archives for a little while, here's my introduction. My
name is Alexander Nicholson and I am in my 3rd year studying Computer Science.
I was introduced to semantic web technologies around three months ago through a
referral at school. We were discussing REST APIs and how they could be
connected and the discussion led me here!
Most of my experience has been in web development using Python and PHP. I am
very familiar with Java having used it for Object Oriented Programming and
Compiler+Interpreter courses. I have interned as a System Administrator and a
Software Tester (although I usually found some way to develop something as
well) so I am confident in my ability to pick up on the DBpedia development
methodologies and processes fairly quickly.
My interest lies in how software can be used to improve learning and education
in terms of quality and access. When I graduate, I intend to either continue my
studies in one of: Computational Neuroscience, Human-Computer Interaction or
Learning, Design and Technology, or go into industry in the area of educational
technology.
I am still orienting myself around the DBpedia technology. I am using the
GitHub repositories and this URL:
http://dbpedia.org/about/about-dbpedia/architecture to get acquainted with the
architecture. My first question would be: is there anything else I should be
looking at to get involved ASAP? I do have an account on the wiki forums and
will join the slack team when it is ready.
I am looking forward to getting started as a contributor and possibly doing
Google Summer of Code with the DBpedia community! Nice to "meet" you all.
Regards,Alex
