Hi all,
we apologize if we didn't welcome everyone who introduced himself on the
list, so welcome to all :)
we got accepted again this year and would like to give you some tips for
the procedure and your applications
We want to keep everything transparent and we expect all student questions
to be public, on this list, on the ideas webpage as comments, issue
trackers, etc this makes it easier for the mentors to avoid duplicate work.
your goal is to make the best proposal possible so I suggest you start
preparing that already ;)
please use the template we provide here <http://wiki.dbpedia.org/gsoc2016> and
pay special attention in the project section
- Please describe a tentative project architecture or an approach to it:
- Please detail an expected project plan and timeline with milestones:
these two subsections will help us judge how well you understood the
project and the more detailed timeline you provide the the more chances
are that you have a more clear idea of what you will code during the summer
(in most cases at least).
If you cannot create a project plan with the idea you like, please ask more
questions & clarifications or do some warm up tasks to get a better feeling
of the project.
Once the application period starts, you application will be private on the
system and mentors can still help you improve it but the time is quite
limited and all mentors are volunteers, they have a normal job, family etc
and cannot be available 24/7 so the sooner you start the better
Best luck to all and a warm welcome again!
Cheers,
Dimitris
