hi,
i came across your site and found some confusion as to the origin of the
alligator>caution from the 67 monterey pop show. i actually have not heard
this part (i only have the viola lee and cold rain&snow on audio, and the
viola lee on video) but i do know for a fact that bill graham was there. i
have seen photos of him on the grounds that day, and if you listen to the
end of the who's performance on the monterey pop box set, he most definitely
comes on after they smash their instruments and says "let's hear it one more
time for the who." the dead were the next band on after the who, so it is
very possible that he came on after they were done and said the same thing.
there is also an incident during the dead's short set that involved some
people trying to jump over the fence of the monterey grounds to try to get
in free. peter tork of the monkees comes on and tries to tell them to stop,
but phil supposedly eggs them on to break in anyway. i got this from a
monterey pop book that came out in the early 90s written by SF-scene writer
joel selvin. anyway, i hope this clears up some of the mystery. thanks.

adam
