Actually, when I first saw Deadbase in the late 80's I believe that 7/11/70
was the only show in that Dead at Midnight Fillmore East run that didn't
have a set list. I could see that the set list from the show I had taped
didn't match any of the other dates listed. Although it went against my
first instincts, I concluded that I had been mistaken and that the tape I
had made was from 7/11/70 rather than 7/12/70.

In my defense I will say that I was bowled over when I first saw
Deadbase. I had been completely out of the Dead scene for many years and I
hadn't realized how extensive the tape trading had become. I was overjoyed
that so many older shows from my era ('67 - early '71) were documented and
in circulation. Reading through Deadbase was the first time I had ever
been able to check my memories of the shows I had attended. There was so
much detailed info about so many shows but I was a bit naive about how all
of the info had come to light. I just assumed that most of it was pretty
well researched and verified. So, when it came to that run, it just seemed
very likely that my tape was the "missing" (from Deadbase) undocumented
7/11/70 show.

>The only reason I consider the Weinberg dating of "7/12/70" as 7/11/70 to be
>especially compelling is that it is a statement on the recording itself, and

I agree that this is important data. Also, the friend that I hope to hear
from soon ALSO taped the "other" night (currently listed as 7/12/70). When
I talk to him we will be hearing from another first person source besides
Marty Weinberg.

So, Jim, despite your much appreciated and sometimes amazing research on
this (and many other shows) it may very well turn out that I was mistaken
about the date of my tape. If this is confirmed, I would like to apologize
for any part I had in the confusion. It certainly has been a humbling
experience for me.

As I said, please stay tuned and I'll let you all know what I find out.

-Kenny
