I was listening to the gd hour this morning and heard the "First There Is A Mountain" (a.k.a. "Mountain Jam") quote/tease on Alligator from 1/22/68 Eagle's Auditorium, Seattle WA. I've heard these before but I never realized before this morning that they were pre-Allman Brothers. I quess Duane and/or Gregg heard the Dead on the west coast when they were working on the "Allman Joys" album & it stuck in their head. Interesting that these nuggets evolved into the 30-45 opus that the brothers eventually created.or they simply heard it on "Anthem of the Sun..."
or the idea came to both bands independently....
