I kick-started Scotty into searching for that tape almost 2 years ago. He had to
search through his many storage boxes (I wonder what else is in there?) and it
took a while before he found it. His emails contain alot of interesting info,
but he is not sure of the date of the tape. He thought it was on cassette, but
when it was found it was on a reel. His son's friend transferred it to CDR and
Scotty had him make me a copy. Maybe the son's friend is the source of these
recently circulating copies? I picked mine up from the shop. Since I've gotten
married and bought a house in the last few months, I haven't had a chance to
really sit down and give it a good listen. It was recorded with a single mic,
per Scotty. I'll see if he minds if I post all of his thoughts to the list.
So, I should have the best source available, but when I listened in the car
(months ago), I remember thinking at one point that the CD had skipped backward
several minutes.
Here is the setlist info that I've culled from deadlists:
10/??/72 - Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, John Dawson, possibly other New
Riders Scotty's Music Store, St. Louis, MO - Instrumental, Country
Roads, Instrumental, Is Anybody Going To San Antoine, Instrumental,
Seasons Of My Heart
SCOTTIE'S MUSIC STORE
St. Louis, MO
Garcia/ Nelson/ Grisman/ Marmaduke
May 14, 1970
6. Warm-up
7. Dim Lights, Thick Smoke & Loud, Loud Music
8. Yakety Axe
9. Take Me Home Country Roads
10. Instrumental ("How High The Moon"?)
11. Long Black Veil
12. Is Anybody Goin' To San Antone?
13. Instrumental
14. ?? (Weir vocal?)
When I proposed the 2 above dates to Scotty, he said he wasn't sure, but the
5/14/70 date "looks right."
Who needs copies for Deadlists purposes?
Later, Jon
