David's post jogged my memory and now I recall that the tale told when the second-gen cassette surfaced was that Latvala lent his first-gen cassette to a woman who copied it via a cheap dual-well cassette deck.

 Wasn't that bleed-through from the 2-cass gen tape?  I believe it was
 probably bleed-through from what was recorded on the tape prior.  I seem
 to recall being told that 2nd gen tape was made on some crappy
 equipment, likely with a cheap (i.e. used) tape.  Or maybe it was just a
 dream.  It's been a long time.
