The Riders were not on tour with the Dead at this time. They hooked up with (bumped into) the Dead a few times on this tour, yes, but not on 03/16. Even if they did open for the Dead on this date, I doubt strongly that Jerry would use Buddy Cage's steel. That's pretty much the same as if Buddy were to decide he wanted to pay down some electric guitar and grabbed Jerry guitar to indulge himself.
I also doubt strongly that Jerry was lugging around his steel rig at this time. He pretty well hung it up after Oct 71.
