I, back around 1980, received as a gift an LP, white cover with a yellow 8
1/2X11 sheet with a black & white drawing of Garcia in mirrored shades, and
"MM4" in the lower corner. For years we called it "MM4" and it was only when I
got my first Deadbase and crossreferenced the songs that I came to the
tentative conclusion it was likely from this show. The songs sound as if they
may have been from an FM broadcast and all sound like they are from the same
show (sound and energy-wise). This is the only show I could find with all of
the songs on the LP. They are in a different order, however (and sound like
they've been rearranged). It opens with a smoking wah-wah-driven Sugar
Magnolia. Has a short drum intro into Good Lovin' -> Drums -> Good Lovin',
then an Uncle John's Band closes the first side (or opened the second - I now
only have it on cassette), then a smoking China Cat -> Jam -> Rider, and side 2
concludes with a Casey Jones in which (and this could
be the telltale clue), on the "Trouble with you is the trouble with me" verse,
Jerry sings "Trouble ahead, whoa, Ladiiiieee! Too good eyes but we still don't
see."

If you could possibly ID this show, it would be great. As I said, it seems
likely to be 10/23/70 judging from the songlist, has some skips in UJB & Casey
Jones that seem to be from scratches on a previous vinyl pressing from which
this must have been pressed.

Another clue is that there is a flat note as the last note of the intro to
Casey Jones.

To this day it remains one of my favourite tapes, and there is one part of
Jerry's Sugar Mag solo that rips into me in a similar fashion to one lick
by Duane Allman on the common "One Way Out." Just ripping.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any info on it; if you could maybe see if the Casey
Jones at McDonough has a lyrical blunder a la Jerry, it would lead me to
believe my guess was correct.

Plus, it was my friend Drew's first Dead show, so he'd love to know if his copy
is actually from his first show.:)

Thanks!

Dave
The blues is a tone that puts me in contact with a lot of things, culturally,
spiritually, cosmically. I really enjoy it, and I'm not going to let it go,
because it's that good-Taj Mahal
