It certainly seems that there's enough information to qualify that an actual performance took place on 3/5/71 and the date should be added. from the blog below:
"There's a bit more info on the connection between the Dead & the Panthers in Peter Doggett's book There's A Riot Going On. Actually, page 411 of that book has a very long discussion of the Dead's 3-5-71 appearance! Apparently the Dead played a short show featuring Lovelight. Lesh recalled that during one quiet jam, the crowd shouted "Free Bobby Seale" -----Original Message----- From: owner-deadli...@nemesis.cs.berkeley.edu [mailto:owner-deadli...@nemesis.cs.berkeley.edu] On Behalf Of charrymcl...@myfairpoint.net Sent: Tuesday, June 08, 2010 6:10 AM To: inmyt...@gmail.com; deadlists@nemesis.CS.Berkeley.EDU Subject: RE: Bobby Seale, Angela Davis, et al - Black Panthers benefit Friday, March 5, 1971 The ebay listing is wrong for several reasons - the poster itself provides the 1971 date, 3/5/68 was on a Tuesday and the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation Inc. Collection at Stanford shows it as 3/5/71 (http://www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/tf3k40032t/). Also, there's a good discussion of the 3/5/71 show at http://lostlivedead.blogspot.com/2010/02/march-5-1971-oakland-auditorium-oak land.html#comments But what I find really intriguing is that the listing at the Huey P. Newton Foundation shows it as a reel-to-reel recording. Perhaps it's just a recording of the speakers but would be cool to know if the GD were recorded that day. Does anybody here live near Stanford and would be able to take a look?
