Jim Powell made an interesting comment: "Pigpen got his B-3 back before long. He kept contributing keyboards alongside T.C. and later alongside Keith. At my first show -- Winterland 10/25/69 -- the Dead's stage set-up was remarkable for the two drum-sets flanked by two keyboards, one probably a Hammond."
I don't think I ever discerned two keyboards in the tape of 10/25/69, or for that matter, in any show from 1969. We know they had two organs briefly in fall 1968 before the Hammond was repossessed - not only does TC have fond memories of playing with Pigpen, Phil also wrote that on TC's first tour, "he and Pig shared the organ seat, giving the band a rich, strange sound." McNally and Lesh both say that in the fall of '69, "sheriffs repossessed Pigpen's organ from the stage as the show was about to begin" (AGAIN!) - so Pigpen must've had it at least part of the year, along with Constanten's Vox. So are there any tapes from the year where we can hear two keyboards?
