Note that Thee Club was not in Santa Monica—it was on Santa Monica Blvd in Los
Angeles (actually in an unincorporated part of the county which is now West
Hollywood).
They must have been one of the first bands to play there: here's a reference to
the club a few weeks later, which mentions it is "fairly new, but they are
growing fast":

The article also promotes the GD show on 9/25 in Pasadena, which we know very
