I forgot whether I've written this before, but anyway:
We've been having a bit of trouble with our mailing list. There are
currently 185 people on it, but our internet service provider only allows
us to send 250 mails per hour. So if we have 2 posts within an hour,
mailman (the mailing list manager program) sends out 370, of which 120
will be rejected by some other program. These 120 mails go back to mailman
which concludes that the mail bounced because the address is invalid --
and it then promptly suspends this address from membership on the list.
As a consequence, some of you (including myself) don't get all mails that
go to the list. That's not a good situation and we're aware of it.
We've tried to solve this with the provider but they're unwilling to lift
the 250 mails/hour limit. We're now looking into using something else than
mailman that can use ar_sendmail instead of sendmail because ar_sendmail
can delay sending mails if they exceed a certain limit per hour, but we
haven't managed to get this going yet. If all fails, we'll move the
mailing list again.
Sorry for the trouble :-(
W.
