Hi, there are lots of parameters you can set within ML http://trilinos.sandia.gov/packages/ml/manuals.html so you can search there for what might be useful for your problem.
I think that currently only a small list of parameters is supported in dealii but you can easily change that by going into the library and add some more and then recompile.
