Dear deal.ii users, I am currently looking for a PhD student to work in a project related to two- phase flow in heterogeneous porous media in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Alberta. The project will involve developing a multi-dimensional mathematical model using deal.ii, so I thought that some of you might be interested.
In this PhD project, you would be involved in developing a mathematical model for reacting two-phase flows in heterogeneous porous media (i.e., coalbeds). The aim is to model a liquid fluid containing micro- organisms that is injected in a coalbed as well as the reactions that will take place in the coalbed due to the microorganisms' interaction with the coal to produce methane. Then, the transport of the methane gas out of the reservoir will also need to be modelled. This project is a multi-disciplinary project involving researchers in Mechanical Engineering, Biology and Chemical Engineering. The PhD student will also be able to apply the mathematical models developed for this project to enhance our current models in polymer electrolyte fuel cells. Students interested in this position can contact me at [email protected]. Please include your CV and transcripts. Interested students should have a GPA of 3.6 or higher and should be able to speak, understand and write English well.
