All,
in the past, step-15 showed some techniques of questionable importance for a rather quirky, nonlinear, 1d problem. While interesting from a theoretical viewpoint, the program therefore did not well serve the purpose of the tutorial.

So, Sven Wetterauer, an undergraduate student in a short course I taught in Heidelberg this spring, implemented a solver for the minimal surface equation, a nonlinear elliptic problem. Together, he and I have converted this solver into a "new step-15". I think it is a much better tutorial program now for the purpose of learning how to solve nonlinear problems using Newton's method using deal.II.

Thanks, Sven!

Best
 W.
